Rise Against - Appeal To Reason (cd)

Bad Religion and weak. That are the keywords for this new record from Rise Against. It starts of great with 'Collapse' which sounds a whole lot like Bad Religion and has great lyrics about the decline of the United States.
Sadly the record declines after that as well. The songs that follow can be categorized as poppunk and numetal not unlike the songs on previous records 'Siren Songs' and 'The Sufferer and the Witness'. The problem with these new songs however is that they don't get stuck in your head. You never want to scream along and it all tends to be boring elevator music.
It says enough about 'Appeal To Reason' that the best song is the acoustic 'Hero of War'. That's the only emotional song on a record which leaves the impression Rise Against wanted to get out of their contract with Universal fast so made a quick record to fulfill their obligation. I don't think their fans are going to appreciate it though, they expect more of this band. And they should receive more.

Man, i used to love this band back in the early 2000's when they were on fat records. I think 'The Unraveling" is a near flawless record.

I must have seen them live at least 5 times touring on that record and 'Revolutions Per Minute', it was a lot of fun. Then i remember the last time a saw them a couple of years ago at a huge venue, it was such a bummer.

I even think 'Siren Songs' and 'The Sufferer and The Witness' are pretty good records but as you their live shows we're getting more boring by the year. Sadly that has also transferred on their records now. Tim McIlrath should start himself a solocareer cause has a good voice and good lyrics but the Rise Against formula seems to have dried up bu now.

Although their first records where way better, I actually enjoy this one. You should also check the bonus tracks "Elective Amnesia" & "Historia Calamitatum". They're even a bit better than the rest.
