Comeback Kid - Through The Noise cd/dvd

Let me start by saying I'm not a big fan of liverecords from hardcorebands. Usually it ends up as a collection of the biggest hits played at one of two shows. Usually the sound of the record is really live, making it impossible to really hear the singer and most guitar parts or the whole thing is mixed and you have a greatest hits record with some sample from audience mixed in.

Secondly I don't like live dvd's either. Being at the show yourself is so much better. The only exception are dvd's of very special shows in a bands' career like their final show.

That said Victory brings a livecd and dvd from the only hardcore band currently on their label: Comeback Kid. I can be very short about the cd, the hits are there, Andrew Neumann isn't a very great singer, the band plays very heavy and tight and the whole thing quickly gets dull.

The dvd features the same show as the cd, a concert in Leipzig Germany, as well as a documentary on Comeback Kid and some videos. The concert is boring as hell. Why shoot this footage at one of many shows on a European tour? Why not a concert from Canada where the feeling is more special?

The documentary is the highlight of this release. It's the history of Comeback Kid from start till now and gives insight in the first months of the band, interviews with original vocalist Scott Wade and longtime bassman Kevin Call, footage from the studio and shows all over the world as well as interviews with the people who are in Comeback Kid right now.

After seeing this you've learned that Comeback Kid never practice, that it can be cold in Canada, that the band has to stay backstage for half an hour after playing in Indonesia because they will get killed by the ecstatic crowd, that Scott Wade was the voice of Comeback Kid and it's hard to replace him, that the band has a great workethic and that Wake The Dead was the best song they will ever write.

Bottom line: get this only if you're into Comeback Kid.
