You can't misinterpret the influence that early Strung Out, Ten Foot Pole and Satanic Surfers must have had on this band. Still 'Shut The World Out' doesn't come over as a relic or as an outdated record. That has to do with the quality of the songwriting, which is great, and the production as well.
What is also good about this release is that most of the songs are very political instead of other typical subject for bands in this genre, being girls, summer and skating. Opener 'Decreasing Development' is about the western world funding civil wars in Africa and 'Tearing International Treaties' is about the US government not participating in climate control.
If this band was around in the mid nineties they would have a bright future ahead of them for sure, still their music and message is as relevant now only the style they play isn't the big thing anymore.
